The Shiv Sena, led by Uddhav Thackeray, on Saturday called the election commission’s order banning the Thackeray and Eknath Shinde factions from using the party name and election symbol in the upcoming Andheri Assembly indirect vote Is like “injustice”.

The group led by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde meanwhile called the EC order appropriate.

The polling body should have made a decision in a comprehensive manner rather than adopting an interim decision for the partial vote, said Ambadas Danve, leader of the opposition in the Maharashtra Legislative Council, a Thackeray loyalist. “It’s an injustice,” he told PTI.

Shiv Sena leader and former minister Aaditya Thackeray lashed out at rebel Sena leaders on Saturday after the EC order. The ‘Khokewale’ traitors have committed this dastardly and dastardly act of freezing the Shiv Sena name and symbol,” he tweeted, adding that the people of Maharashtra will not tolerate it.

“We will fight and win. We are on the side of the truth. Satyamev Jayate! he said in the Marathi tweet.

On his Instagram page, Aaditya posted Harivansh Rai Bachchan’s famous poem “Agnipath.

Aaditya and other leaders of the Uddhav Thackeray faction accused the rebels led by CM Shinde of committing treason for the bait of “khoke” or cash boxes.

The November 3 by-election in Andheri East constituency on the outskirts of Mumbai is the first electoral test for the Thackeray group after the party split in June this year, bringing down the government led by Uddhav Thackeray.

Interestingly, the upcoming contest pits the Thackeray-led faction against the BJP. The Shinde group does not dispute. The EC asked the two groups to propose by Monday three choices of names for their groups, as well as as many free symbols.

Chandrakant Khaire, a former MP and another leader of the Thackeray camp, attacked the rival faction led by Shinde and said whoever did this cannot undo the “sin” he committed.

Prataprao Jadhav, an MP from the Shinde camp, said the EC had made the right decision.

Uddhav Thackeray rejected the ideology of Sena founder Bal Thackeray and formed an alliance with Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party, he said. The interim order came on Saturday at the request of the Shinde faction to be awarded the symbol ahead of the indirect vote of the Andheri East assembly.

“The Commission has a duty to ensure that all electoral stages of the by-election are free from confusion and contradiction and therefore its next stage is necessarily independent of the possibility of either faction participating in the ballot,” the interim order said. .

Rival factions had approached the Commission after the Shiv Sena’s ranks split in June, claiming to be the “real Shiv Sena”.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), an ally of the Shinde faction, has decided to field Murji Patel, a caporator from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, for the bypoll necessitated by the death of Sena MLA Ramesh Latke. The Congress and the NCP have decided to support the late Latke’s wife, Rujuta Latke, candidate of the Thackeray faction of the Shiv Sena, their coalition partner in Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA).
