CHENNAI: Chief Minister MP Stalin on Wednesday launched a financial aid program for children who have lost their parents due to the pandemic. At the secretariat, the guardians of five of these children received documents for a deposit of Rs 5 lakh in the Tamil Nadu Power Finance and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited. The children, when they turn 18, will receive this amount as well as interest.
In addition, five children who lost one of their parents to the infection received 3 lakh aid on Wednesday. Minister of Social Affairs B Geetha Jeevan, Chief Secretary V Irai Anbu and other senior officials were present on the occasion.
On May 29, the Chief Minister announced relief measures for children orphaned by the pandemic. Some of the measures include priority admission to government hostels and hostels; The state government will cover all of their educational expenses until graduation, including accommodation costs; Rs 3,000 monthly aid if supported by a parent or guardian, up to the age of 18; a special committee at the district level will oversee their education and other matters; and all government social assistance programs will be extended to these children as a priority.
