According to recent reports, if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer successfully signs Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid this summer, a new role could be reserved for full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
This is according to a recent report by The sun, who claims the Red Devils’ pursuit of Trippier could spark a defensive reshuffle.
After joining the club in 2019, Wan-Bissaka cemented his place among some of Europe’s most defensive full-backs.
However, one area of the England defender’s game that is frequently criticized is his ability to effectively contribute to the attack.
Often compared to Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold, Wan-Bissaka continues to have his offensive stats scrutinized.
However, apparently accepting that the young full-back’s best attributes lie in his defensive responsibilities, manager Solskjaer is expected to work around the defender’s weaknesses.
The Sun claim that if the club managed to sign Trippier, who would be keen to move to Old Trafford (MEN), then Solskjaer will move Wan-Bissaka to form a third of the last three.
This possible baseline change would prompt the Red Devils to play a 3-4 or 3-5-2 formation more often next season.
