Dua Lipa paid homage to Barbie without being too explicit about the film while on vacation. In her latest Instagram, the singer posed in a pink metallic minidress by the water of her vacation home's infinity pool. She wore her hair down and accessorized with a statement gold choker.
Her caption was a reference to Ryan Gosling's Ken in the film. She wrote, “all I do is beach,” alluding to Ken's job in Barbie Land.
This is just Lipa's latest Instagram from her trip. She previously posed in a lavender bikini and red netted dress, which seems to be a nod to her role in Barbie.
Lipa played Mermaid Barbie and sang the soundtrack's lead single “Dance the Night.” While she recently celebrated the success of her single, she can't currently talk about her experience acting in the movie due to the actors' strike.
Before the strike, Lipa spoke to Dazed in May about how Barbie's director and co-screenwriter Greta Gerwig drew her to the project. She said Gerwig's “films never really feel like the male gaze. They have very interesting female protagonists.” She also teased that she did “not necessarily” have to film under water for her role.
Lipa shared the film would expand how people think of Barbie. “Barbie, the doll, has this idea of what perfection should be,” she said. “The film—and there’s a lot of diversity in the cast—is touching exactly on the buttons that maybe it presses, and shows a different story.”
