With summer officially in full swing and the Barbie movie less than two weeks away, it’s the perfect time to give your hair an official switch-up. And with Barbiecore everywhere, don’t be fooled into thinking that a pink aesthetic is the only way to be Barbie-fied. Margot Robbie walked the red, er, pink carpet with an updo that can only be described as the Barbie way.

Achieving Barbie-esque hair was more than developing a style. The day before the premiere, Robbie teamed up with expert celebrity hair colorist Jason Schwartz to ensure Robbie’s hair was the perfect Barbie blonde. “We did a modern take on the iconic Barbie blonde for her premiere. I strayed from the artificial wigs she wore in the film and humanized her from her role as a doll into the movie star and icon that Margot is,” Schwartz explained. He highlighted Robbie’s hair using a babylight technique with BLONDME Premium Lightener 9+ with 20 volume BLONDME premium developer to create an even lift while protecting the bonds in the hair. Schwartz sees Robbie every six weeks to ensure her blonde hair looks luscious and not brassy.

On the day of the premiere, Robbie sat in Bryce Scarlett’s chair to get red carpet glam. With fresh blonde hair, Scarlett was “inspired to do this doll-like ponytail from the 1960s to coordinate with her custom Schiaparelli gown.” They decided on an updo because of the long lines of the dress and the original design of the doll. “Doll like hair is all about fullness and volume, but a controlled shape is what keeps it modern,” states Scarlett to ELLE.com.

He prepped Robbie’s hair by detangling with Tangle Teezer’s The Wide Tooth Comb, the dual-sided design allows for a swift, gentle detangling process with minimal breakage. Next, Scarlett shampooed and conditioned Robbie’s hair, brushing the product through her wet hair using Tangle Teezer’s The Ultimate Detangler for an even distribution.

After rinsing her hair and drying it, Scarlett set Robbie’s hair in Velcro rollers. Once cooled, he created a smooth ponytail, sectioning out the 2 inches of her 360 hairline. Scarlett then set the entire ponytail into 2-inch curls and the hairline sections. Once cooled, Scarlett used The Ultimate Styler to gently brush out the curls and shape the bang area and the ponytail for a modern, full look.

The final look was red carpet perfection. And when one is having a good hair day like above, we’re sure at the premiere that this Barbie wanted to go party!
