Inspired by Betty Catroux, Bianca Jagger, and Catherine Deneuve (Saint Laurent muses from the '80s) Anthony Vaccarello’s fall 2019 collection is meant to take you from the boardroom to the club. A series of models in sharp, oversized coats and sunglasses opened the show, walking to the thumping synth music. The women looked strong and full of swagger I'd love to steal.
In keeping with Vaccarello's over-the-top sexy aesthetic, from there the hemlines got shorter and tuxedo suiting was styled without shirts underneath. A series of LBDs in various textures and fabrications (feathers! sequins! leathers!) also popped up, before a smattering of menswear looks and one last mini dress as a finale look.
And just as it seemed the show was ending, the lights went out. Models began to walk again, this time behind a glass wall illuminated by blacklight—all the better to showcase the glow in the dark fashion. Feathered coats, zebra print cocktail dresses, and neon pink and highlighter green shoes lit up on the runway. It was a neat trick, but made it hard to see the clothes.
