All the Best Looks From New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2023
Another season, another fashion week.
Another season, another fashion week. It may be cold (or warm, then cold, then warm again), but New York Fashion Week is back, after a very busy showing in September. There are no vax cards, and, for better or worse, virtually no masks in sight, but there are tons of looks showcasing what to wear come fall 2023. Click through to see our favorite looks of the season, from Rodarte’s gothic fairies to Theory’s back-to-work basics, Christian Siriano’s ode to glamour, and more. Next stop: London!
Luar
Luar closed out the week with a bang at the Greenpoint Gallery, where its currently displaying a selection of its best-selling hits. The brand has quickly become the hottest show ticket in town, and having the closing slot confirms that Raul Lopez is the name of the season. After a mad rush at the door, the show began with a blaring techno mix. Lopez expanded on the street glamour he investigated last season, diving deeper into bringing streetwear and red carpet looks together. Massive padded jackets were cinched with belts emblazoned with the Luar logo, draped dresses were done in plaids and rich neutrals, and the ever-present tracksuit got a serious facelift with giant shoulders. The headwear was major, and the models’ hair appeared glued on. Last but definitely not least, the coveted Ana bag was updated as both a bedazzled briefcase and a holographic tote. We cannot emphasize enough that Luar is a brand to watch, and Lopez is only just getting started.—Kevin LeBlanc, fashion associate

Markarian
Fresh off the heels of designing Naomi Biden’s wedding after-party dress, Markarian’s Alexandra O’Neill continues her winning streak for FW23. The collection was inspired by her late grandmother, and the halcyon days of her youth spent dancing at hotspots like Cafe Zanzibar. There were sequins, silks, and brocades, all ready for a night out.—Claire Stern, digital deputy editor

Wiederhoeft
With a sense of twisted whimsy that’s typical for the brand and anything but typical in the outside world, Wiederhoeft presented a collection meant to inspire playfulness and passion. Overt bridal and religious motifs were met with corsets, low waists, and sex appeal in a perfectly choreographed runway presentation, accessorized with the tiniest coin purses imaginable. Sparkles, crystals, and shine also took center stage in most looks, proving that glamour is here to stay for FW23.—Madison Rexroat, fashion and accessories assistant

Michael Kors Collection
“A luxe lineup” is how Michael Kors’ Instagram described the fall/winter 2023 collection, and indeed it was, complete with sequin jumpsuits, form-fitting dresses with frontal slits, and big furry jackets. The White Lotusization of fashion week continued with Beatrice Grannò and Simona Tobasco seated front row.—Claire Stern, digital deputy editor

Altuzarra
In the darkness of New York Public Library’s hallowed halls after hours, Joseph Altuzarra presented his technicolor, psychedelic fall/winter 2023 collection that gave *real* winter clothes a couture update. The prints almost looked like leaves, or tie-dyed Burning Man clothing, expanding on last season but bringing the vibe to eveningwear. Gorgeous draped leather evening gowns resolved the day-to-night quandary. The final run of duvet gowns adorned with a fur trim proved he’s on the right track to bring his wares to awards season.—Kevin LeBlanc, fashion associate

Thom Browne
Thom Browne proved once again that he’s still the weirdest, most imaginative designer in New York with his dramatic, fashionable take on The Little Prince. The whimsical three-act show not only demonstrated his unmatched eye for tailoring and proportion, but also his capacity for wonder and love—on Valentine’s Day, no less.
