The 15 Collections You Might Have Missed (But Need to See) From Fashion Month

Bally's new creative director, Pablo Coppola has reinvented the Bally brand for the modern woman. This collection blew us away with expert tailoring, clean-no-nonsense styling and most importantly, the mix of the masculine and feminine. Of the latest collection Coppola exclusively tells ELLE.com, "The Bally girl regardless of her age is not only a girl but also a mother, a career woman, she is a 'gentlewoman'! Sophisticated in spirit, she like a men's coat and at the same time a beautifully made pair of pump, she appreciates the quality of leather and noble materials. She is understated but quintessentially feminine." She is indeed. I am pretty certain that if I needed to find my fall wardrobe in one place, it would be Bally.

Missoni's diffusion line takes a fresh new approach to its bread and butter: knitwear. Knits, which are basically the defining staple of any fall wardrobe get a pretty perfect update from M Missoni. Colorful and textured, the collection experiments with new outerwear shapes, materials, and layers. Arm warmers even make a comeback. The knee-high boots give a nod to the '70s without feeling costume-y and are as perfectly wearable with jeans and turtleneck as they are styled with an a-line skirt and cocoon coat. Coupled with must have accessories, this is the kind of collection that will make us wish for some low temperatures again.

French couturier Bouchra Jarrar is famous for her attention to precision and the ability to make simple things appear grandiose. Jarrar's collections are characterized by classic silhouettes: tailored vests, fitted knits, and a sporty interpretation of clothing that is rarely seen in French fashion. This season, the designer expanded her knitwear and managed to use some hot pink accents, which is a welcome addition to any fall palette.

If you didn't hear New York buzzing about the new direction of Coach over New York fashion week, you must have had your headphones in. Almost every editor I know was delightfully surprised by the brilliant collection from Stuart Vevers. Graphic houndstooth prints, exaggerated shearling, and, of course, the bags rounded out the trifecta that made Coach one of the standout collections of New York Fashion Week. I will not be surprised when I see the fashion community in head-to-toe Coach looks next season.

Australian import Dion Lee has been showing in New York for a few seasons, and each time he presents his collection here we are happy to stamp his passport. This season, he gave a nod to classic Americana by giving the cowgirl a sexy twist. Luxurious knits, cutout dresses, and rich leather were the staples of this collection.

The Edun fall collection transported me to an imaginary place where I wanted to live forever. The palette was perfectly neutral: nudes, greys, whites, and textures took center stage for the runway show. The oversized knits were combed out to look like furs and appeared in larger than life shapes on the runway. My favorite part, of course, were the customized Stan Smith sneakers.

Another Australian, Kym Ellery brings her brand of edgy cool to Paris. For fall, Ellery premiered more of her voluminous silhouettes, which have become somewhat of a signature. Ellery thinks big: big in terms of big sleeves and big skirts, that is.

New York based designer, Charles Harbison knows a thing or two about elevated sportswear. This young designer honed his skills at Michael Kors before going out on his own. This season, he focused on outstanding outerwear (coats with two sets of arms!), sophisticated fur details, and a healthy mix of muted and bold colors. If this is the future of the New York design scene, it sure is bright!

Paris is the city of creativity in fashion, though it is not always kind to new talent. But designer Simon Porte Jacquemus appears to have broken that stereotype. Forward thinking, innovative, and modern, Jacquemus has created the wardrobe for the ultimate cool-girl. It takes a certain kind of je ne sais quoi to be able to pull off a crop-top skirt-suit over pants. That's the kind of girl I am looking to be next fall.

This season, Katie Ermilio forwent a presentation at New York Fashion Week in place of a very stylized lookbook. Ermilio's work is defined by a modern sophistication, a Holly Golightly that hangs out downtown, if you will. This collection runs the gamut of everything from cocktail attire, to black tie gowns, to some lace numbers for nights when you are dancing on the bar. Ermilio designs for every occasion with the mindset that whatever you are doing, you need to be having fun and well dressed. The Katie Ermilio fall collection is a stellar guide to how to look good, even if you are being bad.

Martin Grant (the third Australian on the list) is the king of simplicity and truly wearable fashion. His fall collection is a celebration of all things Parisian and chic. It is beautifully understated and emphasizes the effortless quality that only the most stylish of women can achieve.

Seasoned Japanese brand Sacai is no stranger to Paris Fashion Week but the 11-day marathon that stretches over Paris means that you might overlook some of the most amazing collections. I wanted to make sure that was not the case with Sacai. Sacai's fall collection was nothing short of amazing. Designer Chitose Abe fused Nordic references with over-the-top textures like shearling and leather. She balanced the delicateness of colorful fringe with dynamic oversize silhouettes perfectly. Sacai was the kind of show that makes your heart ache—so full of beauty and creativity that it is impossible to take in all at once which is why, we had to take a second, third, and 10th look.

Sandy Liang's debut collection is spectacular. A New York based designer, she captures the energy of the city and the casual nonchalance of the modern, urban woman. Liang plays with lengths and proportions, cropping wide-leg pants at the ankle, employing plunging necklines in an oversized shirt, and creating larger than life outerwear that makes a sure statement. This collection is full of color and optimism, which is all you can really hope for from your first collection.

New York based designer Tanya Taylor showed a refreshing fall collection dominated by pastels and metallics. The young designer also made my absolute favorite accessories of the season: neon colored fur purses. Don't ask me about the functionality of such a thing, but they are pure genius. The collection showcased more of Taylor's signature style, which includes very feminine silhouettes and a youthful approach to fashion. If you want to have fun this fall, Tanya Taylor is where it's at.

You might have heard more about the Topshop Unique front row, which included notable names like Kendall Jenner and Kate Moss, but the clothes actually were the stars of the show. This season, the focus was on outerwear, cocktail dresses, and perfect day looks. At a price point slightly higher than what the Topshop customer is used to, Unique promises designs that are well, unique, and worth the investment.
