Warm coppery reds might be all the rage among the Hollywood set, but Emma Stone (aka the OG redhead herself) is embracing something a little brighter and lighter.

On a selfie posted to her longtime hairstylist Mara Roszak's Instagram, Stone - who's been sporting darker brunette tones and shades of auburn for the past seven years - debuted a dramatic colour change to milky blonde. The all-over colour appears deliciously creamy and perfectly even, with hardly any roots in sight. It's a cool-toned hue that's giving winter angel in the height of summer, and we're all here for it.

'To achieve milky blonde look, it all depends of the type of base colour we’re working on,' says Francesco De Chiara, master colourist at Nicola Clarke at John Frieda Salons. 'If it’s a darker base, such as a dark blonde or light brown, the best way is to do a full scalp bleach blonde with a root shadow using a light blonde toner. Then, we'll do an all over toner with the perfect creamy, milky blonde.'

For those with a paler base hue such as a medium to light blonde, De Chiara recommends asking for a set of highlights with a root shadow using a creamy, milky toner.

This isn't Stone's first go at being blonde. Back in 2017, she went full-on platinum with a slight golden tint and longer lengths. This time around, Roszak gave the Cruella star a 'cool girlie summer bob chop chop' - as she describes in the post - with plenty of face-framing layers to add movement and body to the style.

For such a dramatic colour change, the shorter length makes the tone easier to maintain so hair stays healthy and shiny. Roszak used products from her own haircare line, Roz Hair, on Stone's look. She name checks Roz Hair Milk Serum for 'definition and heatless styling', Foundation Duo to cleanse and nourish, and finally, Santa Lucia Styling Oil to smooth the ends and add a glossy finish.

If you're planning to go milky blonde a la Stone, keep your locks in top form by incorporating a sulphate-free shampoo to remove grime without stripping the colour (De Chiara is a fan of Virtue Colourkick De-Brassing Shampoo), conditioning masks for a moisture boost and bonding treatments to restore any damage. Book in for a root touch-up every six to seven weeks to keep your colour pristine.

We'll be adding Stone's latest 'do to our moodboard, ASAP.
