Blackpink's Jisoo launched her solo career last night, becoming the last of the K-pop quartet to release a solo mini album. Jisoo's first single, “꽃(FLOWER),” comes as spring literally begins in the northern hemisphere and captures the end of a love story. Jisoo sings about freeing herself from an unhealthy romance, using a flower metaphor throughout the song to talk about the relationship and its final remains.
Lyrics like, “I fly away like a blue butterfly / It's all on you that you didn't hold on / Even the times that we were in full bloom / A lie, lie, lie to me,” and “Now goodbye, goodbye / Never looking back / A leaf named hesitance / Falling away from you by a spring shower / Nothing left but a scent of a flower,” capture Jisoo's painful but necessary choice to leave. Meanwhile, her chorus, with the lines “I'm okay, would you be as well? / On a beautiful day without a single cloud / There was nothing left but the scent of a flower,” show her peace with the outcome and hope for her future.
Of course, it's unclear whether there was a real-life inspiration for the song or if Jisoo was telling a story about a general feeling many experience at the end of a relationship. The K-pop singer, like her bandmates, has never commented on any dating rumors (her agency has only made headlines for trying to shut down rumors) and has kept her love life private.
Jisoo has been honest about her initial reluctance to launch a solo career. Last year, she was still flirting with the idea, telling Rolling Stone that she was hesitant about whether it was really the right time. “I’m not sure how much I want to go solo yet,” she started, via Billboard. “The music I listen to, the music I can do, and the music I want to do—what should I choose? I love songs with lots of instruments. I love different bands and rock music. What do people want from me? There’s a chaos of conflicting questions. So I’m still tilting my head in confusion. I’m not sure what will happen with my solo plans this year.”
But Jisoo went for it—and released a stunning music video for “꽃(FLOWER),” to celebrate her first entry. Her wardrobe alone is incredible:

Intro
Eh-eh-eh-eh
Eh-eh-eh-eh
Verse 1
A-B-C, Do-Re-Mi
Refrain
Pre-Chorus
Chorus
Verse 2
You and me, 미칠 듯이
Refrain
Pre-Chorus
Chorus
Bridge
Outro
Hey-hey-ey-hey
Hey, hey-ey-hey
Hey-hey-ey-hey
